Questions:
Can I purchase 100Mbps and use it for multiple
servers?
No.
As you'll read in the "how do we do it" section to your right, we count on a
slightly larger profit margin because each 100Mbps port only provides
bandwidth to one server. Our discounted rates only apply to
single-server hosting.
If you are in need of multiple servers (and less than 100Mbps of bandwidth
per-server), please contact us or see
http://www.multiplehost.com/ -- we can provide you great rates!

What types of hosting applications do you allow?
Please see our "What's
Legal?" page for more information. In general we allow anything
that's legal within your state or country AND the United States as well as
the state in which your server is hosted (generally Virginia and
California). We do not, however, allow IRC hosting as it is prohibited
by many of our end providers. We do allow adult server hosting as long
as all adult content is legal. Please see our "What's
Legal?" page for details on what is allowed.
Which data centers do you use? Who are your bandwidth providers?
We utilize only the most respected data centers, such as
Equinix IBX Centers. Our primary
location for 100Mbps Server hosting is the Equinix IBX Data Center in
Ashburn, VA (Washington, DC area).
In this facility, we utilize a blend of
top-notch bandwidth provided by Level(3), Global Crossing, Hurricane
Electric, nLayer, and
approximately 10 other quality providers.
By using a
protocol known as BGP4 (Border Gateway Protocol 4), our connectivity remains
intact even if one or more providers have downtime.
How do we do it?
Many of our customers have
asked how we can offer such high-quality bandwidth at such a low price.
After all, we're offering an intelligently-routed blend of top-notch
Internet bandwidth, provided by companies such as Level(3) and
Global Crossing. Even low-quality bandwidth is known to be more
expensive than our selling price.
The answer is multi-faceted:
- We have extremely large commitments with
each of our providers. By buying in bulk, we get steep discounts.
We take the risk so you don't have to.
- When we initially entered the "bulk
bandwidth" business, we gradually built up our business by "shopping" for
high-bandwidth clients that would have different peak usage times
throughout the day. This means that while one client may be
utilizing the full 100Mbps, another client (possibly with a site that
caters toward a different part of the world -- hence, a different time
zone), may only be utilizing 10Mbps. Twelve hours later, these
clients effectively "swap" -- the first client may only be using 10Mbps
while the second client uses 100Mbps. If these were our only two clients,
this means that our end providers would only bill us for 110Mbps, because
at no point did we burst above that amount of usage.
This does not mean that we sell "over-subscribed" bandwidth -- each
customer is guaranteed 100Mbps per server. We'll always have the
capacity to serve each customer, even if all of our customers maxes out
his or her 100Mbps for the entire month. This simply means that
we're able to realize more of a profit by obtaining a diverse customer
base. Our customer base has now gotten large enough for us to cater
to the general public.
- Some of our clients operate
"event-based" businesses. This means that their servers will receive
much more traffic when a given event takes place, such as the release of a
new version of software (to be downloaded) or the airing of a TV show or
other media event. While these customers may burst to 100Mbps for a
significant portion of the month, this may not overlap with the period of
time during which other customers burst to 100Mbps. This means that
our providers may not bill us for the full 200Mbps (similar to the example
in the previous bullet).
